FIR Filed Against LegalEdge (Toprankers) After CLAT 2026 AIR-1 Dispute

Law Prep Tutorial has filed an FIR against the directors of LegalEdge (Toprankers), alleging a systematic attempt to mislead students and parents by forcing a CLAT 2026 topper to falsely deny her association with Law Prep Tutorial.

The FIR has been registered at Shastri Nagar Police Station, Jodhpur, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000, based on a complaint filed by Jasram Choudhary, Additional Director, LPT Edutech Pvt. Ltd.

CLAT 2026 AIR-1: The Core Of The Allegations

As stated in the FIR, the controversy revolves around Geetali Gupta, who secured All India Rank 1 (AIR-1) in CLAT 2026.

The complaint clearly states:

  • Geetali Gupta was a student at Law Prep Tutorial.
  • She was enrolled in Law Prep Tutorial’s Online CLAT Coaching – OG Batch.
  • The OG Batch is an elite program designed to train the top 50 CLAT aspirants nationwide.

She actively used:

  • Law Prep Tutorial’s top-tier CLAT mock test series
  • The Game Changer Kit, Law Prep Tutorial’s comprehensive CLAT study material

According to the FIR, despite this documented academic association, LegalEdge allegedly forced the student to record a video denying any link with Law Prep Tutorial.

Alleged Coercion Through Contractual Pressure

As per the complaint, LegalEdge directors allegedly:

  • Pressured the student and her family
  • Used contractual agreements as leverage
  • Forced the recording of videos stating that she had no connection with Law Prep Tutorial
  • Circulated these videos and advertisements digitally and through newspapers

The FIR claims that this was done to manufacture a false public narrative and to mislead CLAT aspirants during the admission and counselling phase.

Who Has Been Named in the FIR?

As per the FIR registered at Shastri Nagar Police Station, Jodhpur, a total of six individuals have been named as accused in the case.

The FIR names the following persons:

  • Harsh Gargani – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
  • Karan Mehta – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Neeraj Nagarsheth – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Gaurav Goyal – Director, LegalEdge (Toprankers), Madhya Pradesh
  • Geetali Gupta – CLAT 2026 topper, resident of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan
  • Jagdish Kumar Gupta – Father of the student, resident of Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan

Use Of Media And Digital Platforms

The complaint further alleges that:

  • These videos were selectively promoted on digital platforms
  • Advertisements were published in multiple newspapers

The intent was to project that the topper was “only associated with LegalEdge.”
Competing claims were portrayed as “false”, creating confusion and fear among aspirants

Law Prep Tutorial states that such actions distort facts and exploit student achievements for competitive marketing.

Legal Sections Invoked

The FIR has been registered under:

  • BNS Sections: 356(2), 351(2), 336(4), 318(4), 61(2)
  • IT Act, 2000: Section 66(D)

These sections relate to criminal intimidation, cheating, forgery, conspiracy, and digital deception, as per the complaint.

“This Is Not The First Time,” Says Law Prep

Law Prep Tutorial has stated that similar patterns have been observed in previous years, where aggressive misinformation campaigns allegedly surfaced around top ranks and results.

“Competition should be based on teaching quality and student outcomes, not coercion or misinformation. Students should never be forced into brand battles,” a senior Law Prep official stated.

The institute emphasized that this FIR was filed to protect students, parents, and the integrity of the law entrance preparation.

Message To CLAT Aspirants And Parents

Law Prep Tutorial urged aspirants to:

  • Verify claims through credible academic records
  • Avoid being influenced by sudden marketing campaigns
  • Judge institutes by long-term consistency, results, and ethics

The matter is currently under investigation.
